More than just a visual change, dark mode can reduce eye strain and save battery life on devices with OLED screens. While enabling it in some apps is easy, depending on the version of your Windows, Notepad keeps things a bit mysterious. But don’t worry about it, in this article, we'll guide you through the steps to enable dark mode in Notepad on Windows 11.
Basically, you can realize this via system Settings, which will usually affect multiple apps across the OS.
Press Win + I to open the Settings app in Windows 11.
In the Settings window, select Personalization from the left-hand sidebar, then click on Themes on the right to access the color settings.
Under the Choose your mode section, click the dropdown menu. Select Dark as your preferred mode.
This will apply the dark theme system-wide, including the Notepad application.
Launch Notepad by searching for it in the Start menu or using the search bar.
Notepad should now display in dark mode, with a dark background and light text, making it easier on the eyes in dim environments.
If you require more visibility adjustments, return to the Colors settings, and explore the High contrast settings to further customize your display preferences.
Now, you can turn on the dark mode from Settings in Notepad itself.
1. Open Notepad
2. Click on Settings (gear icon) at the top of right corner
3. Select Dark under the App theme
You will find that there is another option: Use system settings, which is the first method we mentioned. If you'd prefer to have your theme change automatically based on your system settings, proceed to the Use system settings option.
To undo these changes, simply repeat the steps above and select Light from the theme options.
Notepad++ is like the classic Windows app but with some advanced functionality. This third-party text editor builds upon the traditional Notepad by providing capabilities such as syntax highlighting, macros, and plugin support.
1. Open Notepad++ and navigate to Settings > Style Configurator.
2. In the Select theme dropdown menu, choose Deep Black.
You can also customize the app further by adjusting styles, fonts, or colors if desired. Once done, click Save & Close.
Enabling dark mode in Notepad on Windows 11 is a simple process that can be achieved by changing system settings. This user-friendly feature promotes better user interface interaction by offering a gentler visual experience, especially in low-light conditions. Whether for reducing eye strain or personal preference, dark mode is a great addition to Windows 11's usability options. Hope you can enable dark mode for Notepad and Notepad++ easily by following this post.
